Brief Bio:
Sue Ann Reed was born in Missouri, and is a graduate of the University of Missouri, with an MFA in printmaking/drawing. She has over 20 years of experience working in the art field, creating, marketing, working on commissions and working with designers and architects. She has found that her exciting, sophisticated work fits in well in corporate as well as private environments. She is open to working on commissions and has created works for special spots in a variety of venues.
"In most of the works shown here, I am using both printmaking and painting techniques. The surface is rich with texture, pattern and layer upon layer of color. The infinitely small details of nature intrigue me, and the way in which the forces of the universe are present in the smallest element. I am not reproducing what I see, but revealing inner voices. I want the heart to respond to my work, and to touch something deep within. In the "flesh," these pieces are constantly moving and changing; revealing the mystery beneath the veils."

Selected Reviews:
(Excerpt from newspaper interview, given by former professor, preceding one-woman show)
"Ms. Reed worked under my supervision in the area of printmaking. Her accomplishments and development in printmaking were marked by evolved ideas, concepts, technique and increasing sensitivity to a medium with which she became deeply involved and engrossed. As she progressed in the field, it was evident that personal initiative and a strong ability to be technically innovative resulted in some masterful multi-color prints which exhibit serious creative accomplishment. Ms. Reed's command of her media portends a strong future in the art world."
Professor John S. Weller, professor of printmaking/drawing, Univ. of MO., Columbia, MO.

(excerpt from article for Portland Evening Express, Portland, ME, concerning one-woman exhibit)
"In moving from the 'Ten Moderns', (including Marsden Hartley, Arthur Dove, and John Sloan), to Sue Reed's exhibition, this viewer felt uplifted and cleansed. Reed's paintings fill the room and would have done so had there been fewer than 22 individual works. Hartley, Dove and Company are a hard act to follow and in years past most contemporary shows would have paled beside them. Reed's work not only holds its own but works much better as an exhibition because of the inevitable comparisons.
Indeed, Reed is one of a growing number of strong, individualistic practitioners who are creating a viable and exciting art scene.
Reed, whose earlier 'Nasty Landscape' series caught my attention, has at her command an arsenal of media. Marked by a strong graphic sense, a keen knowledge of color and media and a sense of humor, each work is an integral part of the whole. Reed's work may be called abstract or non-representational, but it is not the kind of work that can be 'learned'.
Unique, bold and often idiosyncratic, her paintings create a world of experiences, magic, symbols and motion. Except in two cases, this implied imagery never breaks the surface, yet the viewer knows that something extraordinarily powerful lurks within. Each work comes across as powerful and provocative. There is a lot to be learned here in terms of ideas and technique translated gracefully into finished art."
